TAKE-HOME MESSAGE
- The authors provide a long-term follow-up analysis of the randomized Women’s Health Initiative Dietary Modification clinical trial evaluating the impact of a low-fat dietary pattern on breast cancer. After almost 20 years of follow-up, the significant reduction in deaths after breast cancer associated with the low-fat diet was persistent, and a significant reduction in deaths as a result of breast cancer was seen.
- These findings provide evidence that a low-fat dietary change in postmenopausal women may reduce the risk of dying as a result of breast cancer.
